Your guide to fibre connectivity

Every business has different needs from their connectivity service. Whether you’re looking to keep a small team online, provide a great connection to your customers or power a multi-site business. Businesses need to get online for a variety of reasons, and your priorities will inform which connectivity service is right for you.

As much as connectivity providers constantly talk about fibre connections being the latest and greatest, there’s no real one-size-fits-all solution for businesses. You can actually access fibre broadband in a very cost-effective way. Some companies will always try to push the most expensive option, but we want to help our customers find the most suitable. In this blog, we’ll discuss the various fibre connectivity options available to businesses today, from their price points to their speeds and the types of businesses that they suit best.

FTTC: Cost-effective Fibre Broadband

FTTC, or fibre to the cabinet, is the original superfast connection. Popular providers of this service include Openreach and Virgin. This service runs superfast fibre cables to your local cabinet (those green ones that you see on the pavement). FTTC then runs copper cables from the cabinet to your business. This slows down the connection but can still suit the needs of the majority of smaller businesses.

FTTC maintains an average download speed of 66.0 Mbps, and an upload of 17.0 Mbps. This is pretty fast. It can easily meet the needs of multiple employees in a small business. It can cover the vast majority of your daily online needs. It’s ideal for browsing the internet, making calls via VoIP or video conferences and has more than enough capacity to back up your important files. We know that when customers are onsite, one of the greatest added extras you can provide them is fast WiFi, and FTTC service can help here.

FTTC is now available across 96% of the UK. This availability has only boosted its popularity and has made it one of the most widely used connectivity services around today.

Our cost-effective FTTC solution is now available, starting at £24.99 per month.

FTTP: Ultrafast Full Fibre

FTTP uses the principles behind FTTC connections and takes them a step further. FTTP stands for fibre to the premises. Instead of using a combination of fibre and copper cables, FTTP only uses fibre and connects directly to your business. Openreach are in the process of expanding to FTTP but the roll out is still taking time. At RHM we’ve partnered with Jurassic Fibre to bring FTTP to the Southwest of England.

Jurassic are based in Exeter and have already rolled out FTTP across 350,000 locations in the Southwest. At RHM we’re helping businesses to access FTTP in our home of Gloucestershire, as well as those in the surrounding counties of Wiltshire, Somerset and Dorset.

FTTP can provide ultra-fast speeds that should be able to support just about any business, no matter their size and scale. As your FTTP connection runs directly to your business, the speed of the network can be tailored based solely around your needs. Download speeds can go up to 1000Mpbs and uploads can reach 115Mbps. Working with an independent provider like us here at RHM allows us to provide you with a better connectivity support service moving forward.

Our FTTP services are available starting from 29.99 per month*.

Leased Lines: Powerful Ethernet Connections

Leased lines are the best of the best when it comes to connectivity. These powerful connections can be tailored to businesses and can support the needs of even the largest multi-site enterprises. Leased lines run directly from the exchange to your business via copper pairs.

Because leased lines are tailored to your business, they can support your exact needs. If your business expands, or you acquire a new satellite office, you can scale up your connectivity with ease to support them. Bandwidth can potentially be unlimited as long as you have the resources to support it. Leased lines offer symmetrical bandwidth, so your upload and download speeds are automatically matched, which has a number of benefits.

Symmetrical bandwidth helps your business to maintain any crucial applications that you host on your site. This includes websites, communications, VPNs and a number of cyber and physical security solutions. Our ethernet service comes with our brilliant connectivity support service included as standard. This includes resolving any faults within 6 hours, and a 99.9% SLA as standard. Unlike FTTP, Leased Lines can be installed across 90% of UK businesses.

At RHM we’re currently offering 100 Mbps Fibre Leased Lines from £199.99 per month, or insanely fast 1Gbps Leased Lines from £499.99 per month.

We hope that this guide has helped to simplify the sometimes complicated world of connectivity. There are plenty of solutions out there, but we believe with the right fibre service supporting you, your connectivity worries can be a thing of the past.
